We believe that the future belongs to those who can innovate, adapt, and embrace technology. Robotics is an essential part of the future, and our club is dedicated to preparing students for the exciting challenges ahead. We are proud to use VEX Robotics IQ Generation 2 robots, a system that encourages creativity and fosters a love for engineering and technology among our students.

Our club is designed to inspire students in grades 6th-8th to dive into the world of robotics and eventually all grades. With VEX IQ’s easy-to-use construction system, students can create robots from the ground up, regardless of their experience level. As they become more advanced, they will continue to be challenged, helping them grow their skills and knowledge.

Students in our club utilize their Chromebooks to connect to VEX IQ robots through the VEXcode app. This allows them to program and control their creations with ease. With our eyes set on the VEX IQ Competition in 2024, we are working diligently to design, build, and program our robots for the challenges that lie ahead.

A Multidisciplinary Approach: Integrating STEM Subjects

Our Lady of Fatima Academy Robotics Club offers a unique opportunity for students to explore various STEM subjects through robotics. VEX Robotics seamlessly incorporates physics, engineering, science, math, and programming into its platform, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in multiple disciplines. As they work on their projects, students will develop a deeper understanding of these subjects and how they interconnect, building a solid foundation for their future education and careers.

Physics: Students will explore the principles of motion, force, and energy as they design and build their robots. They will learn about concepts such as torque, friction, and inertia, and apply them to create efficient and effective robotic systems.

Engineering: From mechanical design to electrical systems, our club members will delve into various aspects of engineering. They will learn about gears, pulleys, and other mechanisms while also understanding the intricacies of circuitry and power distribution.

Science: Robotics provides an excellent platform for students to apply scientific principles and explore the natural world. They will gain a deeper understanding of concepts such as gravity, magnetism, and the properties of materials, as well as how to harness these forces in their robotic creations.

Math: Students will use mathematical concepts such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry to design and program their robots. They will learn how to calculate distances, angles, and speeds, as well as develop algorithms for autonomous operation.

Programming: Our club members will learn to code in various languages, including block-based, Python, and C++, using the VEXcode IQ platform. They will develop essential programming skills, such as logic, syntax, and debugging, as they create code to control their robots.

Preparing for the Future

Robotics will play a significant role in the future of technology and industry, making our club an essential part of our students’ education. Many nearby high schools have already adopted the next level of VEX robots, the VEX V5, showing the growing importance of robotics skills in our community.
